September 1964 – Fort Sheridan IL, north of Chicago on the shore of Lake Michigan. We bought our first car as a married couple, it was a 1965 Mustang Hardtop, beautiful deep blue, 289 w/3 speed. I loved that little car. Carol learned how to drive in it.
We had it over a year and during that timeframe, there were gas fumes in the car all the time. The dealer could not figure what was causing the problem. As we now know, there was apparently a leak in the filler neck.
Anyway, we traded it in on a ’66 Galaxy 500. We never had another Mustang until July 2007. I was driving down South Memorial Parkway and there was a yellow ’65 sitting in a used car lot, and the rest is history. This one isn’t blue, but just about everything else is the same as that first one.
Although it is not as easy to get in and out of as the first one!
